Hello relatives. We are excited to announce that our annual Circulo de Hombres Men’s Gathering will continue this year on August 16, 6:00pm through Sunday, August 18 2024 12:00pm at Manzanita Reservation (Property of the Elliot Family – Uncle Nick and Sam). This is our 26th year!! Though 26 years may seem like a long time, we acknowledge that gathering to share palabra in circulo is part of our sacred heritage since time immemorial. All of our relations, young and old, have been gathering separately and collectively as a way of maintaining our sacred spirit, our values, our traditions, and our interconnectedness.
The Mens Gathering is an opportunity for male identifying relatives to experience story, laughter, ceremony, and reflection through an intercambio of words, feelings, pain, joy, and spiritual energy. This tradition, handed down by ancestors, elders, grandparents, and families, is our way of cleansing from the false teachings and woundedness that have become part of our lives. The Mens Gathering allows us to collectively embark on a journey to recover, discover, and uncover the true essence of Sacred Manhood or El Hombre Noble and the responsibilities that come with that.
The San Diego Circulo de Hombres Mens Gathering is coordinated through Izcalli and the National Compadres Network. There is an immense gratitude for our Kumeyaay relatives and tribal communities that have allowed us to continue this sacred tradition on Kumeyaay land. There are also key elders that have sacrificed and gifted so much, some including: Maestro Jose Montoya, Uncle Nick Elliot, Uncle Indio Maldonado, Maestro Yermo Aranda, and Maestro Jerry Tello.
We invite you to join us and we look forward to sharing space together in order to continue these teachings for generations to come.
Please commit to the whole ceremony!! Arrive before Friday Sundown and remain until Sunday @ noon.
