Macedonio leads Izcalli’s programming, strategic goals, and training. With over 20 years experience working with youth development programs and with the San Diego Unified School District, Macedonio is a well recognized trainer of Restorative Circles, Culturally Relevant Instructional Strategies, Cultural Proficiency, and the Joven Noble curriculum. Macedonio is also a co-founder, writer, teacher and Artistic Director of Teatro Izcalli. Macedonio has spoken at hundreds of schools and conferences as a motivational speaker and has received numerous community awards and recognitions including: 2005 KPBS Local Hero of the Year Award; 2005 Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Local Hero Award, 2006 Chula Vista Community Collaborative Males as Positive Forces Award, and the 2014 Hispanicize National Positive Impact Award.
Alicia Chavez-Arteaga, M.A.
Co-founder & Director of Operations
Alicia provides direction for all internal functions within the organization including organizational policies, fiscal management, human resources, and grant and resource development. She has over 20 years experience in the administration of programs and direct services with underserved communities. Alicia is a fellow of the California Arts Council/Coro Southern California Arts Leadership Program and a recipient of the 2013 Union Tribune San Diego Latino Champions “Artist of the Year” Award. Alicia is also a co-founder of Teatro Izcalli and writes, performs, and teaches with the troupe.
